Chakras, distance healing and energy points all sound a little complicated and pretty overwhelming. To be able to heal a person with only the lightest touch or no touch at all and from a distance? All seems pretty unbelievable, right? Well, welcome to the world of reiki where for centuries healers have had the power to fix the vibes of anybody who asked.
To be honest this is not my expertise, so I worked with a reiki healer on this post to get you the information from her first hand!
What is Chakra
But what is reiki? How is this all possible? So in very basic terms, reiki is where a skilled healer will move energy through the energy points of a person. Energy in simple terms is like vibes. You want to encourage the good vibes and banish the bad vibes from these points on a person. The energy points on the body are known as Chakras. These Chakras are said to have spinning discs of energy. There are seven Chakras on the body but some healers work with a few more. Sometimes Chakras get blocked which means the energy through the person's body is not able to move freely. This can cause some seriously uncomfortable vibes going on in the person's life. Once the chakras are unblocked the energy can move freely through the person's body and the good vibes are restored.

When we talk about feeling good and bad vibes it can be a little hard to know what those feelings feel like. For example, bad vibes are like when you just have the feeling something is a little off or something bad is going to happen. On the other hand, good vibes are like when you meet up with an old friend and the conversation just keeps flowing naturally and the day feels great.
Crystal Reiki
A little more on the seven Chakras though. So the seven Chakras are located at seven different vertical points on the human body. Each Chakra has its own color and there are even crystals that relate to those chakras. Crystal reiki is very popular where healers use specific crystals to help their own energy when working with specific chakras.
So let's start from the bottom and work our way up! The lowest Chakra point is located at the Root Chakra. This is in the butt kind of area and is represented by the color red. If we are thinking about crystal reiki then a good crystal to choose for the root chakra is Red Jasper or Obsidian. It is fun to pick a red crystal though to make matching it with the correct chakra more easy!
Next up and a little higher this time is the Sacral Chakra. Located in the lower belly area, this chakra is represented by an orange color. Good crystals to use for this chakra are Carnelian and Amber.
After the sacral chakra, we come to the Solar Plexus Chakra which is located in the midsection of the body. This chakra is represented with a yellow color and good crystals for crystal reiki and the solar plexus chakra is Citrine and Tigers eye!
Following the solar plexus chakra, we get to the Heart chakra which is located in the middle of the chest area. The heart chakra is represented by the color green. In crystal reiki crystals such as Emerald, Rose Quartz and Green Aventurine as used.
Then we have the Throat Chakra which is located in the middle of the throat area. This chakra is shown as the color turquoise or light blue. You can probably tell now that the chakra colors are like a rainbow beginning with red and the final color is purple. The throat chakra can be worked on using crystals such as Lapis Lazuli, Kyanite and Blue Lace Agate.
Shown as the color dark blue, the next chakra is the Third Eye Chakra. Located in between the eyes of a person, it is said to sit where a person's third eye is located. For crystal reiki using the third eye chakra crystals like Azurite and Clear Quartz are suggested.
Finally, we come to the Crown Chakra. The crown chakra is located at the top of the head or crown section of the skull. It is represented by the color purple and crystal used on the crown chakra include Amethyst, White Agate and Moonstone.
Reiki Symbols
So those are the seven chakras and their locations but what about reiki symbols? Reiki symbols are traditionally kept a secret from non-reiki healers however they have become known by non-reiki healers due to factors such as the internet and word of mouth. As reiki is becoming more popular, more people are finding out about the aspects of the practice that used to be very secretive. Reiki symbols are special symbols that when used with the correct intent can change the way the mind and body uses the reiki energy. This means that the vibes can be changed by the healer depending on the reiki symbol used. How do they use these symbols? They can draw them, visualize them or even say their name whilst healing a person to change the way their vibes are used. Like crystal reiki, reiki symbols are a way of changing the level of the energy used during a treatment.
Most reiki masters will use five symbols in their practice. The five main symbols are:
- The Power Symbol - Cho Ku Rei
The power symbol is used to increase or decrease the power (vibes) being used in a session.
- The Harmony Symbol - Sei Hei Ki
The harmony symbol is mainly used for mental and emotional healing.
- The Timelessness Symbol - Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
The timelessness symbol is used in symbol reiki when it is taking place over a distance.
- The Master Symbol - Dai Ko Myo
A very important symbol, the master symbol is used by a healer to encourage the state of enlightenment.
- The Grounding Symbol - Raku
This symbol is used by Reiki Masters (the highest rank of reiki users) to ground a person. (Grounding is being fully present in the moment)

Reiki Meditation
You also may have heard of Reiki Meditation. Reiki Meditation is a sort of self-treatment where a person uses reiki energy during meditation. It can take a lot of practice and a lot of concentration but after using reiki meditation a person can reduce their stress and anxiety levels. Some healers also do guided meditation which is a lot easier for beginners in both reiki and meditation to pick up. This is where the healer can guide you through a meditation routine whilst using reiki energy to promote a state of mental calm. This can be a super nice way to end a horrible working week or even to prepare for a vacation.
