These simple clear plastic easel stands are perfect for slices, ammonites, and other thin crystal specimens.  The easels fold flat so that they can adjust a bit for the specimen's size and style.  Plus you can store them easily if you need.  Since they fold easily, you may have to use some earthquake putty to get them to hold in place if you are using on a slippery surface.  Or if you know it's going to be used permanently for a specimen, you can always super glue it to the position you want it.
