What is Celestite?

Celestite crystal belongs to the sulfate mineral family. This crystal is typically found in hydrothermal veins and cavities in igneous as well as sedimentary rocks like dolomites and limestones. It’s formed thanks to the groundwater’s forces that deposit the mineral compound in the host rock. On a molecular level, Celestite are born when strontium comes into contact with calcium sulfate nodules. This results in calcium being dissolved which causes a cavity where the strontium precipitates and leaves the crystal to grow.

Celestite’s name comes from the Latin word “caelestis” meaning celestial.  You will also often hear it called celestine. The word perfectly resembles the pale blue color which looks like it’s a part of the sky.

How to Cleanse Celestite

Celestite crystal is a strontium sulfate mineral. It has a fragile structure susceptible to scratches with a 3-3.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness. The fracture type is uneven and with a tendency to be particularly brittle.

Because it is a soft stone, it cannot stay in water for any significant period of time.  You can rinse MOST Celestite off with cool clean water without having any issues.  The matrix stone is what causes it to be more unstable... the more clay-like it is, the less stable it is.  You can pretty much judge its strength just by looking and feeling if it is starting to crumble when dry.  If this is the case, opt to simple use a mini air blower to gently dust it off with air.  If the cluster seems to be pretty stable, you can give it a quick rinse in the sink, and just be sure to set it aside so it can dry completely before you handle it too much.

A great way to energetically cleanse Celestite is by using other crystals like Selenite or Clear Quartz. You can also use meditation and sound to cleanse your crystals.
